Mid-life stress ‘precedes dementia’: A new study suggests that stressful events in mid-life, including divorce, unemployment and bereavement, may up women’s risk of Alzheimer’s later in life. The study followed 800 women in their 30s, 40s and 50s over the course of several decades and found that the more stressful events there were, the higher the dementia risk became. Researchers suggested that stress hormones may be to blame, triggering harmful alterations in the brain.
Wine drinkers often overpour, study says: Do you really know how much you’re drinking? A new study suggests that if you’re pouring into a wide wine glass or if you hold the glass while pouring, you’re likely to pour yourself 12% more wine than if you used a narrow glass or set it on the table while pouring. Researchers found that color contrast affected pours, too -participants poured 10% more white wine than red. Even after participants were informed of their habits, they still poured more than a serving.
